Happiness is the ultimate desire of any creature. Even a insect or any other living organism wants to be happy and content. The Torah teaches us that Almighty G-d created this world in order to make us happy, by sharing His kindness with us.
Every person during their lifetime will have obstacles which will challenge their joy. When a person stays close to G-d through Torah and Mitzvot, they will be blessed with great simcha.
Our drive in this world is chesed - kindness, to bring joy to people. How do we accomplish this? By recognizing how HaShem has blessed us with tremendous blessings. If a person has more resources than they need for themselves, and they don't share some of it with people less fortunate, they are wasting G-d's energy.
The Midrash explains, if the Jewish People are helping each other, even if they are not observing the Torah, G-d will still protect them. The Rambam says, there is no greater joy for HaShem, than brining joy to sad people. In our times there are many people who are wealthy but they are unhappy. They feel empty inside. We must reach out to others and make them happy, and this is our best therapy to be motivated and content in life. When HaShem will see how we are busy doing kindness for others, he will shower us with strength.
